Paul Trane is Principal Consultant at Telecommunications Insight Group (TIG).  TIG is a recognized national leader in telecommunications.  From an owner/builder of a large metropolitan fiber optic network to negotiating cable television licenses to serving as an expert witness on telecommunications, Paul has been involved in all aspects of the modern telecommunications industry.   He and TIG's client list includes some of the most recognizable names in biotechnology, government, higher education, hospitality, land development, retail, technology, telecommunications and many other market sectors.  He has provided expert testimony to the United States Congress, the Federal Communications Commission, the Massachusetts Legislature, Massachusetts Department of Telecommunications and Energy, The New York Public Service Commission and the Rhode Island Department of Public Utilities.
In addition, Mr. Trane has appeared before hundreds of municipal legislative bodies in nine states.. Mr. Trane frequently provides comments to major media outlets. He has appeared on National Public Radio, Bloomberg Radio, CBS Sunday Morning and has been quoted extensively on telecommunications in The Boston Globe, Boston Magazine, The Boston Herald, The Boston Business Journal, The Los Angeles Business Journal, Multichannel News, Cable World, Wall Street Journal and many other trade publications.
In 1997, Mr.. Trane was called the "father of cable television competition" for breaking the cable television monopoly and negotiating the nation’s first competitive cable franchise. TIG currently has over 250 negotiations for cable television licenses, video, wireless and fiber optic use agreements in progress in seven states.. This includes work for major landlords, transportation agencies, telecommunications providers and hotel chains Private Fiber Optic Networks.  Paul has been at the forefront of the deployment of new fiber optic networks across the nation.
In 2003, TIG oversaw the acquisition, build-out and deployment of one of the nation's largest private metro fiber optic networks.. This fourteen mile, 432 strand fiber optic network was completed on behalf of Millennium Pharmaceuticals, Inc.. It is TIG's work in building out a private fiber optic campus network for Forest City Enterprises that led to the creation of Forest City Network Solutions (FCNS). This network encompasses the Boston Metro-Loop and sub-loops into Cambridge, Massachusetts and neighboring communities.  As the lead consultant responsible for financing, build-out and implementation of this network, Mr.. Trane created the first network linking the traditional hospitals of Boston to the emerging Biotechnology industry in Cambridge. This private network, now owned jointly by Mr.. Trane and Forest City Enterprises, services over five million square feet of biotechnology and commercial real estate and its users include Partners Health Care, Novartis, Harvard University and Care Group.
Mr. Trane has also been responsible for permitting and deployment of fiber optic networks in Chicago, Los Angeles, and Seattle.  Innovative Wireless Networks   Mr. Trane has been the lead consultant on some of the nation's largest neutral wireless projects. These efforts include a neutral wireless system for the MBTA subway system.. The wireless system is expected to go live in 2008 and make it the first subway system in the nation to have complete wireless coverage that will allow riders to use wireless phones and devices while waiting for and traveling on subway cars.
