Bedford Stem Cell Research Foundation (BSCRF) is a biomedical institute which exists to conduct stem cell and related research for diseases and conditions which currently have no methods of treatment or cure.
Research conducted at BSCRF does not involve the use of fertilized eggs, therefore there is no derivation of embryonic stem cells. BSCRF scientists study parthenotes, which are eggs that have been artificially activated without sperm. This happens spontaneously in nature in all mammals, including humans, but the process is not well understood. No human parthenote stem cells exist at this time, and it is a current focus of the Foundation's scientists. The continuation of this research relies solely upon contributions from individuals, foundations and corporations. Due to the moratorium on stem cell funding, BSCRF receives no federal funding. All donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of th law.
